MUDs have been around for a long time, and while their text-based method of content delivery seems somewhat dated when compared to all of the shiny visuals found in today's modern MMOs, those very same graphical titles owe a great deal to the way MUDs took the tabletop roleplaying experience and converted it so effectively to online format.
Kingdoms of the Lost has reached its 15 years anniversary this month. Certainly it lacks the bells and whistles found in modern MMOs, but there is something to be said for the flexibility found in these text-based games that allows for roleplay opportunities and story development. Many MUDs have seen dwindling numbers over the years, but it is great to see an online game - even one that is smaller than it used to be - trucking along one and a half decades later.
